Building a Space of Innovation

We are a small design practice with big ideas. Our focus is on developing a client’s initial vision into a exciting architectural design solutions. We are committed to sustainable design and continually learning and growing our knowledge as technologies change. CM Architects has signed up to ‘Architects declare’ which is a collective of Australian Architects supporting a commitment to reducing carbon emissions in the building and construction industry.

CM Architects are working towards becoming a carbon neutral company by the end of 2020 and offsetting the emissions that we can’t eliminate through supporting renewable energy projects. More information about ‘Architects declare’ can be found at the following link:

We specialise in

  • multi-residential developments
  • hotel design + renovation
  • retail architecture + interior fitout
  • individual house design
  • sustainable design towards zero carbon
  • affordable, adaptable + seniors living housing

In apartment developments the one-bedroom apartments are generally the poor cousins, the corner apartments are usually two-bedroom apartments, while the one-bedroom apartments are in the centre, and miss out on natural ventilation. I am interested in working with developers and clients to change that and develop a different product for the one bedders and smaller spaces, and to work with developers on apartments which are more sub-tropical in nature.

Carolyn McLean

Carolyn McLean believes in the power of great ideas to create meaningful architecture.

She has been passionate about design since her early teens and has been living the dream as an architect working closely with like minded clients to create residential and commercial projects that improve peoples’ living environments and working spaces.

Essentially we are about improving people’s lives through great design.

After completing many years with large corporate design firms globally and in Australia, in 2013 Carolyn created CM Architects in to provide a more client focused service. Carolyn brings more than 28 years of Architectural experience and loves to continue to work on very small and large projects whenever there is the right client -architect connection and like minded goals for a project.

Designs are based on strong initial concepts and a vision for the project based on a site specific climatic response We then integrate global design research on new materials and technology, and provide our insight on the best creative and practical solution for each project.

Carolyn enjoys the engagement with clients and is very hands on and involved in every project.
