5 Star Kempinski & 4 star Ixir Hotels

Hotel Exterior and Base Building Design in association with RTKL London

Located on one corner of the Bahrain City Centre Complex owned and operated by Majid Al Futtaim, these two Hotels were completed in 2011.

The 5 star Kempinski Hotel is operated by the Kempinski Group and the 4 star Ixir Hotel was the first in the launch of this brand by the Al Futtaim Hotel group. As such Brand standards for the hotel were developed alongside the client during the design phase.

Carolyn McLean led the Woods Bagot design team that designed the new exterior and base building architecture for the Hotel with RTKL London and worked with Wilson Associates from Singapore who designed the Hotel interiors.

Bahrain is an island located in the Persian Gulf between the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. I spent two years working on the Bahrain City Centre project, firstly working on the large retail centre and then focusing on the two hotels that were once a key corner of the development.

The Kempinski hotel was designed to offer a very luxurious experience with multiple fine dining restaurants as well as all-day dining. The lobby was a huge 4 storey atrium space with lounge style guest check in.

Ixir was a new hotel brand created by the client, Majid Al Futtaim as a four star business hotel. The hotels shared all back of house facilities including the kitchens and utility areas, making it a very efficient design from a servicing perspective.
