St Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church Hall
One of the key design elements for the façade of the Church Hall was the ‘Kokoshunik’ – a peaked shape roof projection over the main entry doors. The intention was to represent the shape of the headwear commonly worn by Russian Women as a symbol celebrating the involvement of the Russian women in the parish.
This Kokoshunik was specially made for the project out of sheet metal and craned onto the site in one piece as the feature of the hall entry.
See this short video and photos of the Kokoshunik canopy being craned into place.
Project Team
The other unique element of this project is the pitched ceilings inside the hall with very detailed plaster cornices and decorative ceiling treatment.
We spent a lot of time at a local plaster cornice supplier in Morningside, www.ceilingpanels.com.au
who have the most amazing selection of cornices, architraves and ceiling roses/ decorative features for those special projects that are looking to integrate this additional level of detail to the interior spaces.
